Asset Engineering provided CM/GC services to add 5,760 square feet to the existing dining services portion of the University Center. Project included demolition of existing hardscapes, installation of deep foundations, structural steel and masonry construction, and interior finishes that seamlessly tie into the existing finishes. The roof of the addition was constructed into an elaborate “Green Roof,” complete with common areas and planters that are accessible from the Grand Ballroom.
This building was less than one year old when the project started; careful consideration was required to ensure the finish product tied to the existing building seamlessly as well as to ensure the current building warranties were not impacted. The University utilizes one centrally located dining hall to service the needs of the entire campus, it was critical the project not disturb or disrupt the facility operations. Through diligent planning and constructability analysis during the preconstruction phase of this project, Asset Engineering was able to complete this project two weeks ahead of schedule and under budget. The area directly south of the project serves as one of the major pedestrian arteries into the main campus; constant vigilance and coordination were required to maintain strict safety to the public as well as unobstructed access to the campus.
